Is this a good deal?
‘75 109’ LHD project for $6,900. The motor is fcked, but everything else is apparently fine.

Land Rover is never a good idea, but it may well be a fun idea.

Reasonable deal. Not earth-shattering. Just having a solid firewall and footwells and so on and a straight-ish body puts you ahead a good bit. There’s not really any pressing need to get it repainted, either, and the full Station Wagon interior isn’t in too bad shape. The diesels aren’t terribly hard to get right, but you could always swap to a more modern one...

Here’s an idea.

Hey, now. Series aren’t huge money pits, and mechanically they’re pretty reliable as long as you keep them topped up on fluids. They’re just ‘60s British car reliable, not Range Rover reliable.

Seems legit. Actually, we have a project 109 that’s getting a Benz OM-617 five-cylinder TD. There’s an adapter and flywheel that can be bought and everything.

What he said, drop in a more modern Rover diesel (or just get that one going, it seems to have all the parts) OR maybe find yourself a 4BT and drop it in there. It’s been done before. The upside is it’s hard to not make back what you put into these trucks so in most cases you can’t loose money on them.

4BT would probably be eaiser though.

I kind of want it. Damn no more disposable funds.

Love the old Series III. Rust on the firewall, bottom of the doors, and floor will be the biggest hassle. Might be a good time to do an engine swap if it’s already out and it’s screwed. You’ve got some potential with it. I’d do it if I had the time.

The color combo is perfect, and I think 7k is a good deal for the US of you can’t import cool cars.

Seems reasonable. Just take the 2.25L diesel out and source a 3.5L Rover V8. That way you can make your own Series III Stage One.

Cummins Diesel Swap! DO IT!

Why are we looking for easy?
![]() 07/08/2015 at 11:56 |

Or 3.5L Rover V8. Because who wouldn’t like a Build Your Own Stage One?

SACRILEGE!

“easy”? - some kind of weirdo, this guy.

Well, it is an SIII. wrt the front grill position/etc. changes to make that work, it would be somewhat And Nothing Of Value Was Lost.
![]() 07/08/2015 at 12:02 |

But it would make it reliable. Plus Gale Banks!

Hence: “Dooooooooo Eeeeeeeet.........”

Doorpost rust is another one to look for. This one seems pretty clear of most kinds, however - more so than the last $6k Rover I had contact with, by a lot.

If you want easy then starting with a Land Rover is already off to a bad start.

“easy” on a piece by piece, step by step basis, sure. “easy” on a “scope of project” basis, very often hell no.
![]() 07/08/2015 at 12:09 |

It is much more than the sum of its parts.

I’ll take your word for it.

I’ll admit to one thing, and that is that it’s even less practical than an MG because it drives so dang slowly. By that rubric it *is* a bad idea.

Isuzu time

No they make a kit for the Chevy Isuzu diesels which is nice for the vehicle size
